Come, visit Lisbon, capital of Portugal, and the port of entry for
many ancient and modern civilizations. Today modern day visitors
land on the same shores, share the same streets, as the ancient
Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Moors and finally, in 1147, the
Portuguese.
Our 4-5 hour tour includes a visit to Castelo de São Jorge whose
fortifications date from first BC, where for centuries warriors
defended the castle and finally conquered by the Portuguese in
1147. We will travel to Castelo de Sao Jorge through Alfama, one of
the oldest areas of Lisbon lined with merchants selling traditional
crafts.
After Alfama we will head to Belem, famous for it’s monuments but
we will go behind the monuments for a look at the real Lisbon,
beyond the tourist track, visiting the traditional trade area of the
city where buildings date from the XVI and XVII centuries. It is in
Belem that many of the riches gathered by Portuguese maritime
expansion are displayed in the construction of the great
monuments.
Our day will finish in downtown Lisbon and the Chiado, where the
past meets the present. With luxury shops, cafes, landmarks,
museums and theater.
